In 2002, the Foundation for Small and Medium Enterprise Development came together with the Department of Economics and Finance, the Business School, to form the new School of Economics, Finance and Business at Durham University (known as Durham Business School).
Later, Executive Education and the Foundation for SME Development were integrated to provide Durham Business School’s focus on organisational development, outreach and knowledge transfer.
This new unit, the Department for Executive Education and Enterprise delivers world class business education that is distinct in adding real value proven by solid evaluation and appraisal techniques. The internationally renowned small and medium enterprise development activities remain a key part of the new Department. Offering excellent business support in addition to developing and transferring knowledge to the business support communities, the School will contribute directly into the regional strategy.
Entrepreneurship will continue to be a key element of the School’s activity translating the ground-breaking work of the Barclay’s Centre for Entrepreneurship into a centre of research excellence. Clients will see no disruption to their activities and existing relationships will remain. This regrouping of outreach activities is consistent with the School’s strategy to be recognised as a leading international Business School.
